The year is 2043. After a horrific outbreak a decade earlier, Long Island has become an apocalyptic wasteland filled with the undead. Six young adults break in.
SELF-STYLED GAMER-HACKER JESSICA DANIELS has always marched to the beat of a different drummer. Being the daughter of the man who created the now-vilified Reanimation technology, she’s had no other choice. For the tough-as-nails/vulnerable-as-a-kitten hapkido blackbelt, it’s fight back or be eaten alive.
Figuratively and literally.
Now, a powerful entertainment company has turned the technology into a lucrative gaming empire, rendering Long Island into a live-action VR arcade where the elite rich play out their most violent escapist fantasies using the cybernetically-connected dead as their avatars.
Jessie secretly dreams of tearing the whole thing down. So, when a member of her small, close-knit circle of friends jokingly proposes physically breaking onto the island, how could she possibly refuse? At least it’ll be good for a laugh, right?
In fact, breaking in turns out to be embarrassingly easy. Suspiciously easy. But now, trapped inside fifty-foot walls, cut off from the world, and hounded by mysterious villains who kill just for sport, the adventure quickly turns into a deadly struggle for survival.
But in Gameland, dying does end the game, it’s just another way to level up.
