After the polar ice caps melted, the resulting rise in permafrost methane released into the atmosphere increased global warming to level not previously seen since the Eocene. As temperatures and air humidity increased, swampland became the dominant vegetation. Water inundation left the globe with 30% less landmass than in the previous century. Sea temperatures stabilised at a steady 22ºc in the polar seas, 38ºc at the equator. Mass extinctions of animal species left the human population in crisis. In the UK, Old London drowned under the rising river waters to be replaced by New London, further north. And then the sightings began…
