He never wanted to be the hero of the story.
Now he has no choice.
Ren B’gatti is a creature of chaos. A trickster by nature, and a shape-shifter by trade. Someone who sees himself beyond the moral constraints of good and evil. He works for a band of motley adventurers called the Raconteurs, who themselves are the self-proclaimed guardians of the Literary Universe.
His shape-shifting skills are a great asset to the Raconteurs, and he may have finally found a place where he belongs. But when his closest friend is convicted of a heinous crime, Ren’s life is turned upside down. And he did what he always did. He ran.
Now the Raconteurs need Ren’s help to hunt Rogue Destiny’s greatest criminal mind, who is tearing up literary worlds in a desperate search for an ancient book that holds dark secrets concerning the foundation of the city.
Secrets that could bring magic back to the fabled city of Rogue Destiny.
But the loyalties of a trickster are fickle, and doing the right thing is not always easy, even when the fate of millions of lives hangs in the balance.
The criminal is in possession of a mysterious portal machine that jumps from one world to another. Raconteurs pursue their quarry across Literature to get Ren close enough to infiltrate the criminal’s band of outlaws. But once inside, he encounters the only person that could complicate matters worse.
Now Ren must choose between who he is and who he wants to be.
And time is running out.
