Initzi is a Sun Runner, born for speed and raised in the harsh southern desert of Imbrium. When her band’s lead stallion passes, all the herds send candidates to run an endurance race which will determine his replacement. This is Initzi’s chance to meet the strange horses of the other four herds, but when her mother decides to join the competition, Initzi is stuck looking out for her younger brother, Nikea.
While their dam obsesses over the race, Initzi and the colt are suddenly surrounded by strangers, left to their own devices, and thrust into the company of a young stallion from strange lands. Remmek is different than any horse Initzi has met before. He is charming, daring, and ready to lead Initzi and Nikea into danger, into a dark place that could easily cost all three of them their lives.
